Humane Society and Animal Rescue of Muskegon County
|
Do you adopt out animals to family homes?
Yes. We adopt out animals to loving, caring homes after an application has been filled out
and approved by our evaluation process.
Do you adopt animals to commercial enterprises or animal breeding farms?
No. We do not knowingly adopt animals to commercial enterprises or breeding farms.
Do I have to have my adopted animal spayed or neutered when I adopt from the
Muskegon Humane Society?
Yes. State law requires that all animals adopted from us must be spayed or neutered.
I live out of state. Can I still adopt from the Muskegon Humane Society?
No. Every animal we adopt out can be followed up to ensure that the animal is healthy
and properly taken care of. We cannot verify that animals adopted out of state are taken
care of properly.
I can no longer care for my pet that I adopted from the Muskegon Humane Society. Can
I just give the animal to someone else?
No. Part of the adoption agreement we have with an adoptive family is that the animal is to
be returned to the Muskegon Humane Society in the event that an adoptive family can no
longer care for the pet.
My pet ran away from home and I'm looking for her. If she has been turned into the
Muskegon Humane Society will you just adopt her out?
No. Every effort is made to find the owner of a stray animal turned into the Muskegon
Humane Society. If we cannot locate the animal's owner, we hold the animal for at least 4
days before adopting it out. If you are missing a pet, call us or stop by!
Do you accept any and all animals at the Muskegon Humane Society?
No. We are a donation only facility and as such have limited resources. We have access
to many specific animal rescue groups that we work with to find appropriate places for
animals that we are not equipped to handle.
Part of your name is Muskegon County. Are you part of or associated with the County
of Muskegon?
No. We are not part of the County of Muskegon or its budget. We receive no funds from
the County of Muskegon for our operations. We are a privately owned 501c(3) not for profit
corporation. The Humane Society and Animal Rescue of Muskegon County is operated by
the private donations of companies and individuals who support our views and philosophy
of animal care and adoption. When municipal governments wish to use our facilities for
receiving of animals at large, we will contract with them to accept the animals.
